What does an early abortion look like?

What does an early abortion look like?

All tissue removed from uterus for 5-6 week pregnancy. Forceps point to
gestational sac. All other tissue is tissue, from uterus associated with the
pregnancy

Gestational sac from a termination of pregnancy at 6-7 weeks.

This is a magnified image of an embryo at 5 weeks from conception
(7 weeks from last menstrual period). The embryo came from an
ectopic pregnancy.

This is the same embryo at actual size.

very revealing images . . . i like that you have taken the time to show the relative size

Oh dear lord, you are going to cop a bashing for this one. Morgan is right, the relative size is quite revealing.

As far as the tissue (sorry for being gross) you would never even notice that in menstrual fluid. No wonder so many people never even realise they've miscarried.

Interesting.

I think it's interesting how we all (mammal's) start life looking the same. I mean, we're basically just little blobs of, well blobs. Doesn't matter if your a whale or even a pygmy hippopotamus, you still look like a tiny little tadpole in the early days.

I think the relative size is a good point Morgan, and something that I don't think we really comprehend that often. I guess, we know that sperm are microscopic, from physical sightings of semen, but with egg's there unseen, so I suppose we imagine them to be bigger, and thus naturally assume anti-abortion imagery to be correct.

i did a post about and essay Carl Sagan (well respected astronomer and scientist) wrote about defining when a fetus becomes a "person" and he noted that a fertilized egg is about the same size as the full-stop at the end of this sentence.

About time someone showed the truth about abortion. Funny that some people think that glob of tissue in the first two photographs should have more rights than the woman whose body it came from.

Hi Morgan... a full stop? that really is tiny! (unless they mean a full stop in like pt 100 font )

Yeah Ruby, I dunno what some folks are thinking eh. I mean, it's basically just some snot- You could literally blow your nose and abort your pregnancy (if your nose was in your groin of course...)

Hey There!

Great Info!
But In the end, it really doesnt matter what it looks like.
It is totally up to the individual whether or not an abortion is right for them or not.

It has nothing to do with anyone else. And its about time people relised that. Abortion has been around for alot of years and is going to continue.

And im sure most sane people will agree with me when i say "who wants to live in a world where all your decisions in life are made for you" NOT ME.

Just let People decide for themselves if they want an abortion or not. It has SFA to do with any other person.

Cheers B7

I am surprised its all quiet on the Western front for this one. I'll check in later to see if its still as calm. I doubt it.

Hey B7, thanks for stopping by. I agree it should remain the individuals choice... They can decide whether an abortion is right for them, in their situation, within their religion etc. It's a big decision, and I think it's best to leave your biases at the door and just support the person as much as you can.

Yeah Louie, so far so good eh..

what?! Norm, are you serious? Don't you folks have any pictures of you as a little tucker...? Surely they'd have had access to a microscope lol

Hi alt_ed,

I have a friend of mine who miscarried at 13 weeks.

When she was pregnant the second time she had some bleeding and needed best rest. The bleeding got quite heavy and we were all worried for her.

And then she said something that I'll never forget.

"The bleeding is bad but I haven't passed the sac".

My heart just sank.

So while a sac at 5 weeks is quite small at 13 weeks it's quite an obvious thing.

Like I said in your other post, I'm a prochoicer but to be honest the whole thing is just heartbreaking. I can't imagine having an abortion is an easy thing.

Love & stuff
Mrs M

Isn't it weird how when faced with trauma we become so clinical... "The bleeding is bad but I haven't passed the sac".

It's amazing though just how a little speck of muck 'can' grow into a person isn't it... like have you actually looked at Alex and thought "Woah, I made that... and hes bloody HUGE!" (Like huge compared to the fertilised egg).
