Sociopathic bloggers; you’re not alone!

October 31st 2008 03:16
Statistically at least.

In her book, The Psychopath Next Door, Martha Stout opines that around 4 percent, or one person in every twenty-five suffers from your condition. The American Psychological Association estimate is lower (3 percent of all males), but even using the lower figure, one understands that people such as yourself are found everywhere but normally go unrecognised due partly to their skill in simulating a "normal" personality, and partly to the kind of psychological blindness which causes many people to assume, on no real evidence, that other people are pretty much like them.

A few years ago now, a friend communicated that she felt I to suffered from Antisocial Personality Disorder (Sociopathy). She provided me with links to articles defining Sociopaths and pointed out numerous Sociopathic traits that she had identified in me… It was all rather surreal, as I to could see the many clinical features of a Sociopath that I shared, yet conversely, there were a number of features that I did (and do) not exude at all.

I was having an internal philosophical breakdown. I can only best describe it as finding pair of shoes, yet only the left fit…. it fit so well though, that I found myself trying to squeeze into the right also.

Below I have summarised the common features of descriptions of the behaviour of sociopaths.

* Glibness and Superficial Charm

* Manipulative and Conning
They never recognize the rights of others and see their self-serving behaviours as permissible. They appear to be charming, yet are covertly hostile and domineering, seeing their victim as merely an instrument to be used. They may dominate and humiliate their victims.

* Grandiose Sense of Self
Feels entitled to certain things as "their right."

* Pathological Lying
Has no problem lying coolly and easily and it is almost impossible for them to be truthful on a consistent basis. Can create, and get caught up in, a complex belief about their own powers and abilities. Extremely convincing and even able to pass lie detector tests.

* Lack of Remorse, Shame or Guilt
A deep seated rage, which is split off and repressed, is at their core. Does not see others around them as people, but only as targets and opportunities. Instead of friends, they have victims and accomplices who end up as victims. The end always justifies the means and they let nothing stand in their way.

* Shallow Emotions
When they show what seems to be warmth, joy, love and compassion it is more feigned than experienced and serves an ulterior motive. Outraged by insignificant matters, yet remaining unmoved and cold by what would upset a normal person. Since they are not genuine, neither are their promises.

* Incapacity for Love

* Need for Stimulation
Living on the edge. Verbal outbursts and physical punishments are normal. Promiscuity and gambling are common.

* Callousness/Lack of Empathy
Unable to empathize with the pain of their victims, having only contempt for others' feelings of distress and readily taking advantage of them.

* Poor Behavioural Controls/Impulsive Nature
Rage and abuse, alternating with small expressions of love and approval produce an addictive cycle for abuser and abused, as well as creating hopelessness in the victim. Believe they are all-powerful, all-knowing, entitled to every wish, no sense of personal boundaries, and no concern for their impact on others.

* Early Behaviour Problems/Juvenile Delinquency
Usually has a history of behavioural and academic difficulties, yet "gets by" by conning others. Problems in making and keeping friends; aberrant behaviours such as cruelty to people or animals, stealing, etc.

* Irresponsibility/Unreliability
Not concerned about wrecking others' lives and dreams. Oblivious or indifferent to the devastation they cause. Does not accept blame themselves, but blames others, even for acts they obviously committed.

* Promiscuous Sexual Behaviour/Infidelity
Promiscuity, child sexual abuse, rape and sexual acting out of all sorts.

* Lack of Realistic Life Plan/Parasitic Lifestyle
Tends to move around a lot or makes all encompassing promises for the future, poor work ethic but exploits others effectively.

* Criminal or Entrepreneurial Versatility
Changes their image as needed to avoid prosecution. Changes life story readily.

Other Related Qualities:

1. Contemptuous of those who seek to understand them
2. Does not perceive that anything is wrong with them
3. Authoritarian
4. Secretive
5. Paranoid
6. Only rarely in difficulty with the law, but seeks out situations where their tyrannical behaviour will be tolerated, condoned, or admired
7. Conventional appearance
8. Goal of enslavement of their victim(s)
9. Exercises despotic control over every aspect of the victim's life
10. Has an emotional need to justify their crimes and therefore needs their victim's affirmation (respect, gratitude and love)
11. Ultimate goal is the creation of a willing victim
12. Incapable of real human attachment to another
13. Unable to feel remorse or guilt
14. Extreme narcissism and grandiose
15. May state readily that their goal is to rule the world

(The above traits are based on the psychopathy checklists of H. Cleckley and R. Hare.)

To be diagnosed with Antisocial Personality Disorder, it is commonly accepted that, one must posses three or more of the clinical features of a Sociopath.

Perhaps it is impossible for me to accurately self diagnose which of the above features I have, or even contradictory to do so, given that deceitfulness is the major underlying factor in the life of any Sociopath.

But it's nice to know, statistically, I'm not alone!

I think the persons on here - and we all do know who they are, they are so bleeding obvious - who have multiple personalities should get married. It would make for the most interesting wedding ceremony...

"Do you (insert one of many) take (insert one of many) in orbley wedded bliss. To promise to have and annoy, from this day on...and on...and on...for as long as all your schizophrenic personalities shall thrive?"

"I do, I do, oh yes me too, and me and me...but not me because we are not the same person...oh no whoops me neither...or me.."

I now pronounce you Sybil and Sybil.

just out of interest, which of these qualities do you disagee with?

6. Only rarely in difficulty with the law, but seeks out situations where their tyrannical behaviour will be tolerated, condoned, or admired
8. Goal of enslavement of their victim(s)

just substitute the word "victim" for "boyfriend"

Oh I'm sorry, Lady Anne1, Ruby is that better?

Lady Dave, do you have a job? If so, why do u pay so little rent? Aren't you old? Shouldn't you be a little better off at your stage in life??

Cheryl, it would be wedding of the year... I can just see the S.L. shak'in her boo-tay down the isle in her role as flower girl, and Damo, the page boy, keeping an eye out to make sure no one actually sees him going inside a church (after all, he'd hate for anyone to think his biggoted spin on life stems from a healthy *cough* Catholic upbringing). Oh it would be a grand day indeed...

OK, so what are you saying Morgan? Are you just upset that you weren't credited by name in the post??? Everyone, Morgan is the bitch that told me I'm a Sociopath. There, I said it. Are you happy! Now you can get back to killing babies!!

Hey KC Hill, I guess some of the definitions are fairly general and I think everyone can relate, in part at least

You are going to have to hurry if you want SL there. I'll think she'll be suicidal after the election next Tuesday. She's coming up with an anti-Obama post every two minutes. I'm just waiting for her to inform us that Obama was behind Sept 11. And that he shot JFK.

The Lindbergh baby? Obama.

Jack The Rpiper? Obama again.

AIDS? An Obama-made virus unleashed in an attempt to eradicate the black population. Obama wanted to have a back-up in case his Plan A- aborting the blacks out of existence- didn't work.

hahaha yeah, she's really lost the plot this time hasn't she Ruby. I mean, sometimes it's hard, I feel like I should just take a deep breath and let her be- arguing with her does no good, she just lacks any sense of rational.

I don't understand why there is such little middle ground in the states-- everything is 'Us & Them", where's the balance??

And why did you end the list there? Didn't you know, it was Obama that caused Katrina- Yep, he used his magic anti-christian voodoo to wipe out, you guessed it, some blacks!

You ask:

Lady Dave, do you have a job? If so, why do u pay so little rent? Aren't you old? Shouldn't you be a little better off at your stage in life??

I realise that you want to be perceived as some cyber super-sleuth on Orble. The fact you know little-to-nothing about me (certainly nothing about my rental details, how I earn an income or how well off I am financially now or in the future) is neither here nor there to me, but you seem to get a kick out of your own perception of yourself and your own delusions. Well whatever floats your boat, I guess.

I'm not a big fan of rooting guys up the arse. I leave that to gays. It seems to appeal to them realistically and metaphorically? What I find repulsive about you is that you spend your time either searching for information on bloggers in order to publish it on your posts. Which I think is one of the lowest acts a person can do (straight or gay), and still to this day don't know why Orble don't remove your offensive post in relation to SL Brandish. If you're not doing that, you seem to spend your time concocting and inventing insults towards people you've never met and know so little about. Is that your occupation?

The post you wrote about stalking SL Brandish says more about you than any attack on me will ever say about me. You can try all you like to expose me for the person you think me to be but you're exposing yourself as the person you are by continuing to post and comment as you do. Again, if that floats your boat? I'm not gay. I don't even try to understand what motivates gays. Not remotely interested. I don't even want to think about what floats their boats in private.

You can parade your immaturity all over Orble. Which you seem determined to do, and are doing a great job of. Credit where it's due. Well done. If that's how you want to be perceieved by other people, then continue. And get your two greatest supporters to back you up. But quite frankly? Who really cares about your puerility other then you and your clan of 3?

Just one last question. Is this behaviour a cry for help?

Hi Lady Dave..

Urh, firstly I don't think my behaviour has any relation to my sexuality- much like your transgender persona has little to do with yours (or so I imagine).

Did you read this post? Do you think maybe it's a little pointless alluding to me having 'issues' with society via your comments... On my post about my own sociopathy??

And lets not be casting to many stones of judgement, do you think god would approve of you watching porn, your divorce or any number of the 'sins' you've committed?

Lady Dave, I guess, this is cyber-land and like a true sociopath I've created the online persona that I want.. it's not who I am in the flesh; the same as I doubt your licence states your name is Lady Henrietta Muddling.

You can parade your immaturity all over Orble.
Well, I am fairly young in comparison to the geriatric bible totting red-necks on here, so I'll take is as a compliment that you've noticed my youthful charm

Lots of Love,

Talking about the sociopathic, I used to have the sociophobia when I'm furthering my studies in college, where I afraid to have any face to face contact with anyone in the college and this is totally a horrible nightmare to me here...

Thank goodness, I have recovered from this phobia and life goes on...

I've always thought you were a sociopath, it's part of your charm

Hmm let's see
1. Contemptuous of those who seek to understand them. This I don't think applies to you at all - you have equal contempt for everyone!

3. Authoritarian Well you can be a pushy little bugger.

7. Conventional appearance I know you have devil's horns I've seen them. Is that conventional?

8. Goal of enslavement of their victim(s) Well you certainly have this one down.

10. Has an emotional need to justify their crimes and therefore needs their victim's affirmation (respect, gratitude and love) Nah, you never feel the need to justify anything you do.

11. Ultimate goal is the creation of a willing victim You seem to have created quite a few of these

15. May state readily that their goal is to rule the world
. Well I think you only really want to rule cyberworld, does that count?

Hey Someone, yeah the war on terrorism has nothing compared to battlefield Orble lol... Basically, I'm not on anyone's side.. Except maybe Morgan's (but that doesn't mean I agree with her!)

Lol Cheryl, it's hard to imagine someone so tiny can make me so happy... you're the epitome of happiness. Actually, I think you;re alluding to iota in one of your sentences above.. You'll be pleased to hear that i just spet 20mins abusing him on the phone, as i walked home from the pub lol

Hey Chris, I think the main characters are Morgan, Ruby and I.. even though, i couldn't agree with them any less! As for the alter ego's, you'll have to look at the 'right' wing christian's for those answers...

Janet, I'm not calling you a sociopath, but hey, if the shoe fits hehe... and yes, the pic is very nauseating!

Surely you all have socipathic traits. Anyone who is spending more than a minimal amount of time maintaining a blog and following other bloggers must, to some degree, be anti-social. Friendless? Maybe, but that is simply a result of unsociability.

Comment by Morgan Bell

November 1st 2008 06:21
id say most bloggers are either unemployed, retired, or disabled (i dont mean that in a bad way, i consider myself disabled) . . . i do wonder about people who claim to have children and full-time jobs who post everyday, sometimes multiple times a day, i imagine the kids running around the house poking their eyes out with scissors while they are glued to their computer screens!

Excuse me Alt ed ... just hi-jacking your site for a moment... Yes, you are right Morgan. Many people are in a forced unsociability position. Regarding people looking after children: the good thing about doing anything on computer is that it is so easy to stop and start. What a blessing it must be for some. Sometimes, being on your own with children is really boring. I am sitting here right now trying to do some computer training so it nice to have a message break every now and then. But what is your disability?

i dont think blogging means you are unsociable it just means you have more time on your hands than the average person who commutes to and from an office everyday
actually social butterflies are probably better bloggers because they are exposed to a wide variety of people and opinions to report back on . . . the more friends you interect with, the greater your general knowledge will be, you can be inspired by a broader range of personal experiences etc

im all for discusssion, but i dont really respect people who dismiss others and who are condesceding if you dont toe the line of their intolerent world-view

i respect all sorts of religious people, but when you use Catholicism as an excuse to marginalise queer people and women you are not acting as a great representive of the church - many Catholics can proudly admit to their religious background and still be compassionate and open-minded

I won't say who I do or don't respect on Orble because I really don't want to go there but you're correct in saying respect is earned, unfortunately there are people that expect it as a right and show none when respect is shown to them.

I've found the best thing now is not to engage people I don't respect. I have tried many times to put forth an opposing view in a very respectful manner have been personally attacked for it. That's not respect, that's acting like a dictator.

Needless to say there are many bloggers whose work I love reading and I think Orble has many interesting people posting. I have given up reading or commenting with some others because it invariably turns nasty or gets into tit for tat.

Oh, I just heard through the Orble mill that you'd been ditched.. Would you like me to rephrase the questions as "Do you think god would approve of you having sex out of wedlock?"

Comment by Lady Henrietta Muddling

November 5th 2008 01:06
The Orble mill?

Is that like one of those behind-the-scenes MSN IM/Yahoo Messenger Gossip centres? Where people discuss other people's lives without ever having met them in order to make themselves feel superior? With a bit of SMS texting and the odd mobile/LAN chat and reality meetings thrown in for good gossip measure? Where lol is the most commonly used term?

Where they say things like, "I agree with you." ? "You're right about this person I've never met."?

That type of mill?

Or have Orble branched out into producing flour from the wheat and chaff of their blogs? And not informed me of this new financial direction of theirs?

So you heard, "You'd been ditched." in relation to me? On this Orble mill? That must have been an enthralling listen. Did you go for it? Or did you reserve your judgement? Or make an emotionally rash judgement? Did you say, "Well that sounds like gossip-mongering to me. I'm going to check out the source. And ask someone who actually knows the facts." ? Or did you go, "I believe that because you told me. And I believe you. Because you can tell me anything and I'll believe you, because you and I agree." ?

As to rephrasing your question into:

"Do you think god would approve of you having sex out of wedlock?"

I much prefer the presumption of the first question to the presumption of this one.

Are you asking that because you think I have had sex out of wedlock, or are you asking that out of a genuine desire to know what I think of what God would think, or are you asking that to be a smart arse? (You have to be familiar with David Lynch's Mullholland Drive to fully appreciate my question.
