Five-Year-Old-Pregnant: The Story of Lina Medina
April 26th 2010 11:31
Today’s journey brings us to a little girl who got pregnant at the age of 5. Pretty hard to believe? I thought so until I read the story of Lina Medina.
Lina was born in 1933 in the Peruvian town of Ticrapo Peru. Her parents thought she had a tumor in her stomach which was later diagnosed as a fetus. Lina is the youngest known person to give birth to a baby, and did so via C-section. Her son Gerardo was born healthy at almost 6 pounds. He was named after Lina’s doctor and was raised as Lina’s brother until the age of 10 when he discovered his older sister of 15 was really his mother.
Amazing? I thought so. Gerardo grew up healthy until he passed away at age 40 of a bone marrow disease. As to the origin of the baby’s father…it was always suspected that Lina was raped and molested by her own father. Born with a condition called precocious puberty, the little girl started her menstrual period at 8 months old. Now-a-days, cases of precocious puberty are rare. In seldom cases that precocious puberty may occur, modern hormonal medication can be used to suppress early fertility in children.
Because of lack of evidence, Lina Medina’s father was never convicted of having sex with his five-year-old daughter. As a young adult, Lina worked as a medical secretary to her own doctor. In 2007 it was reported that Lina was still living in a questionable area of Lima, Peru. She married, gave birth to a second son, and lived a quiet secluded life away from curious eyes.
