Barack Obama - The Hip Hop'ers Candidate!
November 2nd 2008 14:07
In the midst of America's most important Presidential election in recent memory, presidential nominee Barack Obama has received support from some of Hip Hop's top dogs.
A new video has surfaced via MTV, which finds New York's 50 Cent and Nas as well as Atlanta's T.I. and Young Jeezy pledging their support for the Senator.
Since the announcement of Senator Obama's nomination several other Hip Hop personalities have also pledged their support including Diddy, Jay-Z and Russell Simmons.
On his recent self-titled studio album, Nas has recorded a track, Black President, where he further expresses his support for Obama.
On the other side of the coin, incarcerated Mobb Deep rapper Prodigy has revealed his reluctance to jump on the Obama bandwagon via his blog on Vibe.com. He stated that "Just because Obama is black doesn't mean that Blacks should vote for him. It's not about color, it's about who is mentally capable of leading American people, defending our freedoms, [and] our human and constitutional rights".
The revered rapper, who is currently serving a three-and-a-half year prison term for a gun charge dating back to 2006, branded the Senator "a phony" who appears to be no different than his opponents or past "plastic Presidents" who will become "another puppet for the Royal Family" if elected.
Prodigy did state that he wants to like Obama but can't due to his policies and wishes him "love and happiness."
Although not expressing fondness for any particular Presidential candidate, Prodigy noted that Texas Congressman Ron Paul, who dropped out of the race several months ago, addressed issues and views that he could agree with during his campaign.
Ghetto-ho's and gangsters can pledge their support, and bust out some moves with the Barack Obama: Yes We Can mixtape produced by industry power-brokers DJ Green Lantern and Russel Simmons. Featuring a host of motivated performers to celebrate the Demoractic Senator from Royce Da 5'9", Wyclef Jean, Kanye West, Mavado and many more... (Eat that Arnie!)
