A little hope for everyone...
August 20th 2008 04:55
Hope, an adorable Maltese terrier was born with only two legs and small extrusions where her front legs should be. Until rescued (by the Southern Comfort Maltese Rescue in Chattanooga, TN) she was forced to hop around, and drag herself backwards using her hind legs.
David Turnbill kindly designed and constructed a special prosthesis for Hope, free of charge. The wheeled device, has given hope to Hope making it far easier for the little pup to get around. Each of the wheeled “arms” can move up or down independently of the other, allowing Hope to pivot, turn and even lie down unassisted.
A cast was made in order to build the prosthetic device, and when she grow bigger another will be made for her.
Experts are happy to see how well Hope has adapted to the device, as there were concerns that her spine would be damaged if she were forced to hobble around or walk on her hind legs only.
